The Basic Worker Awareness course is a four hour training program designed to introduce workers to their rights and duties under Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act.
The course focuses on legislative requirements that apply directly to workers, including how workplace health and safety responsibilities are shared and what protections are in place to support worker rights. Participants are introduced to Ontario’s workplace safety framework and the Internal Responsibility System.

This course is designed for individuals who require an introduction to workplace health and safety rights and responsibilities under Ontario legislation.
Ideal for workers who need foundational awareness of their rights, duties, and available health and safety protections under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Supports individuals who are new to a workplace and require an introduction to Ontario health and safety roles, rights, and reporting structures.
Helps young or less experienced workers understand their workplace rights and how health and safety systems function.
Provides awareness training for workers in temporary or contract roles who need to understand workplace safety expectations and available resources.
Workers must understand their rights under the Occupational Health and Safety Act, including the right to know, participate, and refuse unsafe work.

Knowledge of the roles of the Ministry of Labour and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB)

This course supports worker awareness by outlining legislative expectations and reinforcing how worker knowledge is typically reviewed during compliance activities.
This course provides a Record of Training (ROT) confirming the participant has completed Basic Worker Awareness training related to their rights and duties under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
While this is not a government issued certification, the Record of Training is commonly used by employers to document worker awareness training as part of their health and safety program.
The ROT supports training records and demonstrates that workers have received formal instruction on workplace health and safety expectations.
